Stevenson Demolishes Dunham; Coleman Gets Revenge in Baltimore!

For Immediate Release

Baltimore, MD - With a slew of raucous supporters on hand at the Du Burns Arena in Baltimore, hometown favorite James “Keep em’ Sleepin” Stevenson kept his perfect record in tact with an impressive third round stoppage of Ken “Superman” Dunham.

After a tentative opening round, Stevenson got track in the second, landing a few solid blows to the head of his North Carolina based opponent. With momentum on his side, Stevenson was on the attack during the next stanza. Stevenson dropped Dunham thrice with powerful combinations in the third round, forcing referee Kenny Chevalier to stop the contest at 1:31. With the victory, Stevenson picks up the NABC and WBF Americas Welterweight while upping his flawless record to 10-0 (9 KO’s).

“I saw he couldn’t take my punches after the second round” said Stevenson, who is considered one of boxing’s best kept secrets. “I stayed on him, put the pressure on and after the second knockdown, I knew the fight was just about over.”

Welterweight prospect Tim “Pit Bull” Coleman 16-1-1 (4 KO’s) of Baltimore scored an impressive unanimous decision over tough veteran “Magnificent” Martinus Clay 13-21-4 (5 KO’s) of Philadelphia, PA. Coleman put together a strong performance, controlling Clay throughout the contest with an effective right hand lead from a distance as well as solid body punches when the bout was fought at a close range. The grizzled Philadelphian refused to give up and hung in tough throughout the contest. Scores were 80-72, 79-73 and 78-74 for Coleman, who is now training with Ricky Hatton assistant Lee Beard.

“I think I did a decent job in this fight but I was hoping to knock him out” Coleman said after the bout. “Clay is a tough kid and he always comes to fight but there is definitely a lot more that you will see from Tim Coleman in the near future”. Coleman and Clay previously battled to a draw in December 07.

Popular Cruiserweight Steve “Show Stealer” Wheeler 3-0 (2 KO’s) of Catonsville, MD destroyed Lamar Foreman of New York in the opening round. A quick left cross from Wheeler put Foreman down just 50 seconds into the bout.

Cruiserweight prospect Daniel Kooij 4-0 (1 KO) of Baltimore by way of the Czech Republic earned a six round unanimous decision over Jackson, TN’s Rodricka Ray 2-3-1 (1 KO). Kooij landed a plethora of jabs and strong right hands the head of Ray but also fooled around a bit, dropping his hands en route to taking a few unnecessary punches. Scores were 59-55 twice and 58-56 for Kooij.

Hard hitting Heavyweight Maurice “Freight Train” Byarm upped his record to 3-0 (2 KO’s) after scoring a majority decision victory over tougher than advertised Maurice Winslow 3-10-1 (3 KO’s). The aggressive Byarm stunned Winslow on multiple occasions with hard hooks to both the body and head before surprisingly slowing down. • Baltimore Pro Boxing to Honor Late Steve McNair with Ten Count on July 25
Baltimore Pro Boxing to Honor Late Steve McNair with Ten Count on July 25
For Immediate Release
Baltimore, MD - Steve McNair never wrapped his hands, hit a heavy bag, or starved himself to make weight but in many ways, he was just like a model pugilist. A hard working community oriented athlete who refused to let injuries take him off his game, McNair was known for much more than winning the 2003 NFL co-MVP.
A fan favorite during his short tenure in Baltimore, McNair led the Ravens to a franchise best 13-3 in 2006. Still a visible figure in the community with The Steve McNair Foundation and Gridiron 9 Restaurant, McNair was far from forgotten when he retired after the 2007 season. On July 4, McNair’s life was tragically cut short in Nashville, Tennessee. The sad news of McNair’s passing was not only disheartening for his family and former teammates but also to promoter Jake Smith of Baltimore Pro Boxing. A diehard Ravens fan, Smith proudly wore his #9 McNair jersey on any given Sunday.
Smith will pay respects to McNair with an honorary ten count as well as a moment of silence prior to the main event of his card July 25 at the Du Burns Arena. While he was most remembered for his on the field efforts, Smith also admired McNair as a person.
“To me, it is only appropriate to honor a warrior like McNair,” said Smith. “McNair was one of my favorite players and arguably the best QB in Ravens history. I feel it is my duty to honor a fallen hero in the same city where he gave it his all day each and every time he stepped onto the field.”
The Du Burns Arena is located at 1301 S. Elwood Ave in Baltimore. Doors open at 6:30 and the opening bell is at 8 p.m. Tickets can be ordered by calling 410-375-9175.

  • 7/6: Stevenson-Dunham, Coleman-Clay Rematches Headline “Badness in Baltimore” July 25 at the Du Burns Arena!
Baltimore, MD - Junior Middleweight prospect James “Keep Em Sleepin” Stevenson 9-0 (8 KO’s) of Baltimore, MD will look to keep his flawless record intact as he will lace up for a rematch with confident challenger Ken Dunham July 25 the DuBurns Arena. An elite talent in the Beltway area, Stevenson is starting to create a major buzz in the boxing world. Dunham 6-8 (4 KO’s) of Charlotte, NC is looking to avenge his loss earlier this year and will have a wave of confidence when he enters the ring. On June 5, Dunham impressively stopped previously unbeaten hometown favorite Lenwood Dozier in Westminster, MD.

The eight round co-feature will put Baltimore Welterweight prospect Tim “Pit bull” Coleman 15-1-1 (4 KO’s) in a rematch against the extremely underrated “Magnificent” Martinus Clay of Philadelphia. Coleman, whose only loss came via a razor-thin unanimous decision on Showtime, got back on track with an impressive stoppage in April. With arguably the most deceptive record in the sport at 13-20-4 (5 KO’s), Clay has duked it out with heralded pugilists including James Kirkland, Mike Jones, and Andre Berto among many others.

In 2006, the brawny Clay scored a victory over 34-1 Matt Vanda and fought to a draw with unbeaten contender Harry Yorgy. Clay and Coleman battled to a hotly contested draw in 2007, which immediately prompted talks of a rematch.

Cruiserweight prospect Steve “Show Stealer” Wheeler 2-0 (1 KO) will battle the ever famous TBA in a four rounder. The Catonsville, MD native has looked solid in both of his professional bouts.

Heavyweight Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell 12-0-1 (7 KO’s) of Brandywine, MD will appear in a six round special attraction bout against an opponent to be named. A former star linebacker at Michigan State University, Mitchell is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

Heavyweight prospect Maurice “Freight Train” Byarm 2-0 (2 KO’s) of Washington, DC by way of Philadelphia, PA will duke it out with Wilson, NC’s Maurice Winslow 3-9 (3 KO’s). The cement fisted Byarm will have his hands full as Winslow owns a victory over former world champion Boone Pultz.

Former amateur star Daniel Kooij 3-0 (1 KO) of Baltimore by way of the Czech Republic will tangle with North Carolina’s Octavius Davis 2-2-1 (1 KO) over six at Cruiserweight. Already on the fast track, Kooij defeated grizzled 38 fight veteran Hilario Guzman in his pro debut this May.

Individual tickets are priced at $35, $50 and $75. VIP mini-tables are available for $375 to seat 5. Reserved tables to seat 10 are $500. VIP tables of 10 are available at $750 for second row seating and $1000 for front row. All VIP ticket holders receive free cocktails and Hor’dourves. • 5/30: Cummings Drops Davis; Stevenson Remains Unbeaten in Baltimore
Baltimore, MD – Baltimore native Cory “Black Ice” Cummings upped his record to 17-4 (13 KO’s) with an emphatic 9th round stoppage of Washington DC’s Demetrius Davis 19-15-5 (7 KO’s) in the main event Friday night at the Du Burns Arena.

The opening round was a rough one for Cummings, who had to deal with a gash over his right eye following a clash of heads less than a minute in. With his opponent at a disadvantage, the slick Davis outboxed Cummings while frequently switching between orthodox and southpaw stances.  Cummings was cut once again following a clash in the eighth, this time over the left eye. With a sense of urgency and behind on the cards, Cummings had a strong surge in the final minute of the eighth round.

With momentum on his side and confidence intact, Cummings was able to get inside on his slick opponent and land a big right hook, which dropped the brawny Davis. The game Davis beat the count and was ready to continue but the fight was called to a halt by referee Gary Camponeschi. Along with a TKO at 1:45 of the 9th round, Cummings now has local bragging rights as he picked up the Maryland State Super Middleweight title.

“The Davis-Cummings fight was one of the best I’ve ever seen, said promoter Jake Smith. “Demetrius was handling him until the end of the 8th round and just got caught with a monstrous shot.”

Hot Junior Middleweight James “Keep Em Sleepin” Stevenson of Baltimore heard the final bell for the first time as a professional, scoring a unanimous decision victory over granite chinned Manuel Guzman. Stevenson was able to box and move, making it difficult for the gutsy Guzman to catch him. On occasion, Guzman was able press forward but ineffectively as Stevenson showed he is more than just a power puncher. Scores were 80-72, 79-73 and 79-74. With the victory, Stevenson improves to 9-0 (8 KO’s) while Lancaster, PA’s Guzman drops to 6-7-1 (2 KO’s). Rest assured, “Keep Em Sleepin” is a fighter to watch out for.

Cruiserweight Steve “Show Stealer” Wheeler upped his record to 2-0 after stopping Winchester, VA veteran Dan Shull 1-6. The Catonsvi lle, MD southpaw thoroughly dominated the bout with many effective body blows and right hooks. Shull gave it his all but wa s outgunned until the bout was mercifully stopped at 1:03 of third. Wheeler has had strong showings in both of his pro bouts.

Aggressive DC Heavyweight Maurice “Freight Train” Byarm improved to 2-0 (2 KO’s) following a TKO over Darius Whitson Winston-Salem, NC. Byarm used his 55 pound weight advantage to back up his opponent while landing multiple power shots. The undersized Whitson was unable to keep up with Byarm’s pace and the bout was stopped at 2:55 of the second stanza.

Barry Trotter 1-0 (1 KO) of Columbia, MD scored a dominating first round TKO over fellow debuting pugilist Justin Blackwell 0-1 of Baltimore. The aggressive Trotter tagged Blackwell throughout the opening stanza. An outgunned Blackwell quit on his stool between rounds, citing a hand injury.

The card was promoted by Baltimore Pro Boxing, who will also host their next show at the Du Burns Arena on July 25.

  • 5/25: Davis, Stevenson Ready; Welterweight Prospect Tim Coleman Added to Friday’s Baltimore Pro Boxing Card
Baltimore, MD – During a career that has spanned three decades, Demetrius Davis has seen it all. From world champions to title contenders and prospects, Davis has never shied away from a challenge since turning pro way back in 1987. Unfortunately, the courageous Davis has not always seen the best results.

“I have had many controversial losses”, said Davis, who is fresh off a victory against 14-0 Rowland Bryant. “I frequently went into my opponents’ hometown and my record definitely doesn’t show the type of fighter I am”.

This Friday, Davis, 19-14-5 (7 KO’s) will look to keep his momentum in tact. In his way is Baltimore’s Corey Cummings 16-4 (12 KO’s). Like Davis, Cummings has battled solid opposition, dropping decisions to former world champions Montell Griffin and Keith Holmes. A true crossroads bout, which will be for the Maryland State Super Middleweight crown, Davis is ready to do whatever it takes to have his hand raised following the ten round contest.

“I am 100 percent prepared for this fight”, said Davis, who also fought to a draw with well regarded Tommy Karpency last June. “After defeating Cummings, I am willing to fight anyone, period”.
